On December 28, 2012, the movie Promised Land[2] is being released in New York and Los Angeles. For the rest of us, we will have to wait until January 4, 2013.
Since its announcement this summer, the Natural Gas industry has had its boxers in a bunch. Between editorial hit pieces of Promised Land, and attempts to stir up a “scandal[3]”, the Natural Gas industry has created quite an interest in the movie. The Natural Gas industry has gone as far as to release the script, well, technically not the industry itself, but rather one of its “friends” released the script.
In November 2012, Phelim McAleer, the director of “FrackNation” wrote an op-ed in the Blaze, and released the script.[4] See FrackNation attacks Promised Land[5].
Just as the Natural Gas industry ran hits and slams and even created websites to attack Gasland. They have done the same with Promised Land. You may remember “Truthland”, the Natural Gas industry’s answer to Gasland. Well, it appears they are not much in the creativity department. The Natural Gas industry’s attack site is called the “REAL” Promised Land (RPL). They are even on Facebook.[6]
Clicking the “ABOUT” tab on “Real” Promised Land’s Facebook page (which most people wouldn’t normally do), you find the IPAA is going to do another infomercial as they did with “Truthland”
[7]
Please note in the plot outline(emphasis added) : Launched by the Independent Petroleum Association of America (IPAA) in 2009, Energy In Depth (EID) is a research, education and public outreach campaign focused on getting the facts out about the promise and potential of responsibly developing America’s onshore energy resource base – especially abundant sources of oil and natural gas from shale and other “tight” reservoirs across the country.
That’s a plot? yeah, ok….. :cough cough:
Enough of looking at premise of the infomercial. LET’S LOOK AT SOME DOTS.
If you haven’t read my August 2012 post: Truthland Really[8]?, please do it now.
If you have read Truthland Really?, you may remember the juggling of domain website registrations. Briefly, Truthland was originally registered to Chesapeake Energy, then switch to some unknown company known as MFL Holdings, Inc., and finally shuffled to the IPAA.
I have written about Energy-in-Depth (EID), the IPAA and FTI Consulting connections. See Birth of Energy In Depth[9]. We have established EID is a PR campaign created by IPAA and managed by FTI Consulting.
Naturally, I went to RPL website [10] - http://www.realpromisedland.org/[11], and down at the bottom of the page is EID and IPAA logos. Based on EID-IPAA connections to FTI Consulting, I expected to see either FTI Consulting or Dittus Communications as the registrant for the RPL’s website.
I didn’t.
Instead I found RPL’s website as being registered to Kinesis, LLC[12]. Now that’s a new “DOT”.
Now to find out who is Kinesis, LLC and why they are the registrant for RPL website. Initially a google search for Kinesis, LLC turned up a plumbing company in Florida. Really? Naaaaaahhhhh.
I ran a google search for Kinesis LLC and IPAA. Nothing. Kinesis LLC and natural gas. Nothing. Kinesis LLC and Promised Land. Nothing again.
Well, smack my head and hand me a V-8. Duhhh, try Kinesis LLC and FTI Consulting.
BINGO!
An old article from 2008: FTI CONSULTING : FTI Expands FD’s Digital Media Capabilities With Acquisition of Kinesis Marketing | 07/25/2008[13]
FTI Consulting, Inc. (NYSE: FCN), through its strategic communications arm, FD, today announces the acquisition of Kinesis Marketing, a strategic online communications firm, which represents an important expansion of FD’s interactive service offering. As part of the FTI network, FD Kinesis (as the company will be known) will complement FD’s established design, annual report, and alternative media services unit and bring an expanded range of digital solutions to clients across the Americas and beyond to help them manage their reputations and build their brands.
Per SEC filing, Kinesis LLC is listed as a subsidiary of FTI Consulting.[14]
[15]
Alright, so that was back in 2008, is Kinesis, LLC still a subsidiary?
According to Hoovers[16] link it is.

Clicking on http://www.kinesismarketing.com[18] will take you to FTI Consulting redirect page.

And there you are, the “Real” Promised Land is another commercial brought to by the PR firms hired by the Natural Gas Industry.
Promised Land unBourne[20] by Chip Northup.
As I pointed out in my earlier blogs on this, being a landman is not an uncommon way to get started in the oil and gas business. J. Paul Getty started out as one in Oklahoma – working for his mom. Aubrey McClendon was a landman. At least one of my relatives and several of my friends were/are.
http://blog.shaleshockmedia.org/2012/09/21/the-landmen-should-have-been-the-clue/[21]
The problem is that, being a landman is where the fracking chicanery starts.
Chicanery in communities may start with the landman, but the big infomercials are run by PR firms who are handsomely paid. With apologies to the Mamas & Papas[22], in the gas industry, no one getting fat ‘cept Mama Frack.
UPDATE 12/28/2012:
1. Rumor has it the IPAA/EID minions will be showing up at movie theaters and handing out Fracking “info”.
2. Don’t know where or when Promised Land will be showing in your area? Enter your zip to find showing near you:[23] http://www.rottentomatoes.com/mobile/movies-showtimes/1016837-promised_land/?postal=00000&date=20121227&submit=Go
